About Remedia

Remedia is a small, carefully structured archive of home remedies drawn from traditions across Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East, the Americas and Oceania. Each entry records what the remedy was used for, how it is prepared, the reasoning its tradition offered, and whether it is still practised today.

How entries are structured

Every remedy carries its original source wording for the health issue, method of use and traditional logic. On top of that we add normalised fields so the archive can be filtered: a primary category, ailment tags, region tags, culture tags, an era bucket and a present-day prevalence label.

What the science labels mean

Yes — the core mechanism has meaningful modern support. Partial — some supporting evidence exists, often narrower than the traditional claim. Untested — no reliable modern evidence either way. These labels describe the state of published knowledge, not a recommendation.

How ratings work

Anyone can rate a remedy from 0.5 to 5 stars in half-star steps, without creating an account. Your browser stores an anonymous identifier so you can change your rating later; one rating per remedy per browser. Averages update live and measure community sentiment only.

Limits of this archive

Attributing a remedy to a single culture or era is always an approximation — practices travel, merge and resurface. Where a remedy has multiple independent origins we tag it as global rather than choosing one lineage.

This is a historical and cultural reference, not medical advice. Many of these remedies have never been scientifically validated, and folk reasoning (humoral theory, “hot/cold” classifications, spiritual causation) reflects older explanatory traditions rather than modern medicine. Ratings reflect community opinion, not clinical evidence.
